MPC - Vikings: Valhalla Season 3 VFX Breakdown

Returning once more to the world of Vikings, MPC’s team in Toronto, Mumbai, and Bangalore, delivered over 500 shots across all 8 episodes – serving as the sole vendor for the final season of Netflix’s hugely successful historical drama, Vikings: Valhalla. Led by MPC’s Production VFX Supervisor Ben Mossman and VFX Producer Martin O’Brien, the team continued the momentum established in the previous two seasons – to keep things grounded in the photography by rendering photoreal historical locations and enhancing the action with complex FX simulations.

MPC - Halo: Season 2 VFX Breakdown

Working closely with Production VFX Supervisor Wojciech Zielinski and VFX Producer Mike May, MPC’s team led by VFX Supervisor Kedar Manapragada and VFX Producer Nick Colangelo along with their creative team DFX Supervisor Artem Sukach, Animation Director Tom Nagy, CG Supervisor James Reid and Production Managers Paula Barragan Naranjo, and Huong Vu completed 97 shots for the second season of Halo the Series. The visual effects work included futuristic set extension and full CG city environments, hologram inserts, destruction FX simulations for battle scenes, vehicles, and crowds. Responsibilities: - Responsible for lighting and compositing - Pass and lighting layer set ups in Maya - Build procedural compositing trees (Nuke) - Creation of custom volumetric effects within Nuke - Creation of custom procedural lens flare - Tools: Maya, Nuke, Redshift (Fun fact: this reel was lit two times. the first time was lit in V-ray but after testing the render farm and acknowledging the fact that it was going to take too long to render we opted for Redshift)

ABOUT ANDREA NIEDDA

Andrea Niedda is a Lighting Lead & Digital Compositor based in Toronto.

His journey in CG started in Italy, where he studied advanced Modeling and Surfacing for real-time rendering at Accademia Italiana Videogiochi. Eager to expand his expertise, he moved abroad to further his studies, graduating from the 3D Animation & VFX program at Vancouver Film School.

After working on several projects, Andrea joined Tangent Animation, contributing to Maya and the Three (Netflix) as a Lighting Artist & Digital Compositor. He later transitioned to Mr. X/MPC Toronto, where he has worked on high-profile films and TV series, specializing in lighting, compositing, and technical problem-solving.

Passionate about both the artistic and technical aspects of lighting, Andrea continuously refines workflows and develops tools to push the boundaries of visual storytelling.
